The first fully air conditioned home was built in 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Charles “Bet-A-Million” Gates, heir to a fortune built on barbed wire, railroads and oil. The mansion took up three city lots and had gold plumbing and a full ballroom. Sadly, Gates didn’t live to appreciate this luxury.
