Effective January 1, 2018, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will implement a regulation prohibiting the production of new commercial rooftop and split systems larger than five tons. At the same time, the DOE will move to an IEER part-load-efficiency-only minimum requirement.
This regulation represents a 13% efficiency increase in IEER over current standards and will be followed by an additional increase of 15% in 2023 (Source: Department of Energy).
Lennox continues to be committed to innovation, trust, and quality throughout all regulatory changes and will continue to provide sales and support for its remaining stock of energy-efficient rooftop and split system commercial equipment built prior to January 2018.

According to the DOE, these standards, developed with industry, utilities, and environmental groups, will save more energy than any other standard issued by the Department to date. Industry associations for Canada and the U.S., HRAI and AHRI, are working with Natural Resources of Canada (NRCan) to encourage the adoption of similar efficiencies for all provinces and territories within Canada.
